To become Africa’s leading foundation that empowers millions of young people with the tools, resources and training they need to maximize their potentials.
We are an award-winning global foundation that is helping to transform the lives of millions of young people in Africa by providing them with the tools, resources and training they need to maximise their potentials.
OKF was birthed from the passion Dr Kofi Osei-Kusi has for the youth. For over two decades, he has been involved in mentoring the youth, many of whom are now corporate executives, business owners and leaders in various fields of endeavour. The OKF was therefore established as a vehicle with the desire to invest in young people and create a new breed for public leadership across all spheres. It was registered as a Foundation in 2009 and opened its offices on November 30, 2011.
Our vision is to become Africa’s foremost youth-focused Foundation that helps millions of young people to discover their purpose and maximize their potentials.
OKF’s work can be categorised into three broad areas:
1. LEADERSHIP & ENTREPRENEURSHIP DEVELOPMENT: Coaching, Mentoring, Leadership programmes, Entrepreneurship coaching, and publication of personal development books.
2. LASTING SMILES: Educational scholarships for the blind and deaf, Rural outreaches, Prisoners’ support services, and Support for orphans and widows.
3. VOLUNTEERISM: The OKF organises the National Youth Volunteerism & Patriotism Awards (NYVPA) in Ghana, and the Leadership Award for Girls in High Schools, and is an operating agency of the Head of State Award scheme (Duke of Edinburgh’s Award).
Below are some recent awards we’ve received.
2017 – PHILANTHROPIC FOUNDATION OF THE YEAR
OKF was the winner of the Philanthropic Foundation of the Year 2017 award at the National Philanthropy Awards in Accra, Ghana.
2016 – HIGH IMPACT AWARD
OKF was the winner of the prestigious Small & Medium Enterprises (SME) Ghana High Impact Award in 2016
2016 – BUSINESS WITH A CONSCIENCE
OKF was shortlisted among the top three organisations in the country within the category of “Businesses with a conscience” at the Ghana Economic Forum (GEF) Excellence Awards.
OKF has a Global Board of Trustees and National Boards of Trustees made up of youth development experts, corporate executives and a legal luminary. The Foundation is currently run by a Global CEO, Global Advisors, a management team, support staff and volunteers.
The OKF is operated as a social enterprise and therefore relies on its self-generated funds to run its programmes. Funds are generated through contributions made by the OKF Club Card members, commissions from corporate partners, the sale of OKF books, and income from business consulting services provided by Dr Kofi Osei-Kusi.
What defines us
As a wise person once put it, ‘You cannot help the poor by being one of them’. We challenge ourselves to practice principles of entrepreneurship and wealth creation in order to generate funding for our humanitarian endeavours, thereby ensuring our efforts are sustainable.
We assertively reject mediocrity, instead embracing uniqueness, innovation and leadership. We exceed expectations, and seek to reflect the highest international standards in everything we do in an effort to be outstanding as individuals—and as an organisation.
Integrity is the be-all and end-all of OKF; forming the key foundation of all we represent and seek to achieve. We are transparent and accountable to ourselves, our partners, the government and other stakeholders. By upholding honesty, responsibility and integrity, we seek to inspire others to do the same.
We believe in the power of knowledge, and so we are constantly learning to find new and better ways of carrying out our work in order to maximise the use of our resources for the effective achievement of our goals.
We consciously look out for the good in ourselves, our organisation and the people around us. We count our blessings, no matter how few they may appear to be, and continuously appreciate everyone who helps us to advance our vision.
We empathise; we feel the pain of others, especially that of the youth population. Our work is driven by our burden to help those in desperate need for support.
